ANDEAN COMMUNITY OF NATIONS

CAN MEMBER COUNTRIES

 

The Andean Community of Nations involves: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, and the Integration Andean System (IAS) bodies and institutions.

 

The Integration Andean System goal is to allow an effective coordination of its bodies and institutions in order to reach a deep subregional integration, promote external projection, and consolidate and strengthen those actions related to the integration process.

 

The Integration Andean System involves the following bodies and institutions:

 

 

Andean Presidential Council. Is the most important body of the IAS and is integrated by the presidents of the CAN member countries.

 

 

Andean Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs. Has to formulate, execute, and evaluate the general policy of the Andean Subregional Integration process.

 

 

The Andean Community Commission. Has to formulate, execute, and evaluate the general policy of the Andean Subregional Integration process on the trade and investment sectors. It is integrated by a plenipotentiary official of each of the member countries governments.

 

 

The Andean Community General Secretariat. Is the Andean Community executive body; provides technical support to all the IAS's bodies and institutions. The General Secretary is the main authority, and expresses himself through Resolutions. Its headquarter is located in Lima, Peru.

 

 

The Justice Tribunal. Is the Andean Community jurisdictional body. Its headquarter is located in Quito, Ecuador.

 

 

The Andean Parliament. Is the deliberative body of the System. It involves representatives of the member countries' National Congresses. Its headquarter is located in Bogota, Colombia.

 

 

The Entrepreneurial Consultant Council, and the Labour Consultant Council. Are the consultant institutions of the IAS. They involved representatives of its member countries' entrepreneurial and labour sectors.

 

 

The Andean Development Corporation, and the Latin American Reserve Fund. These are the financial institutions of the System which should impulse the Andean Subregional integration process.

 

 

THE CAN GOALS

 

  • Promote a sound and harmonic development between its member countries in an equity way, through integration, and economic and social cooperation; accelerate growth and occupation generation; facilitate participation within the regional integration process in order to gradually reach a Latin American Common Market.

 

  • Diminish external vulnerability, and improve the member countries position within the international economic framework, strengthen subregional solidarity, and reduce development differences.
